Reminder from Dr. Arnold

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we continue through flu season, Jefferson County Schools would like to share some important reminders to help keep our students and staff healthy and to clarify attendance expectations.

Keeping Students Well
We ask for your partnership in monitoring your child’s health each day. If your child is experiencing flu-like symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, persistent cough, sore throat, or other signs of illness, please keep them home from school. In accordance with Jefferson County Schools Board policy and health best practices, students should be symptom-free and fever-free for at least 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) before returning to school. This helps prevent the spread of illness and protects everyone in our school community.

Attendance and Absences
We understand that illnesses occur, especially during flu season. Please note that unexcused absences are not an attendance concern until a student accumulates more than ten (10) unexcused absences. Schools will send 5-day and 7-day unexcused absence notices to keep families updated. When your child is absent due to illness, please notify the school and provide any requested documentation so the absence may be properly recorded.

Our priority is the health, safety, and well-being of our students while also supporting consistent school attendance. We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to maintain healthy learning environments across Jefferson County Schools.

If you have questions about attendance or health guidelines, please contact your child’s school.

Thank you for your continued partnership.

Sincerely,
Tommy Arnold
