Jefferson County High School welcomed approximately 100 senior citizens for its annual Senior Citizen Prom, a heartwarming tradition that brings generations together for an afternoon of celebration and connection.

This year’s event was hosted by JCHS Career and Technical Education (CTE) students enrolled in Service-Learning, Human Services, Culinary, and Criminal Justice programs. Students collaborated with the Leo Club, the Jefferson County Health Council, and TVA Credit Union to make the prom a memorable experience for all who attended.

From the moment seniors arrived and walked the red carpet, JCHS students ensured they felt welcomed and celebrated. Volunteers helped cook and serve food, created handcrafted corsages, decorated the commons, took photos, and spent time dancing and visiting with their guests.

Service-learning student and project leader Karsyn Mull shared how impactful the experience was, becoming emotional while watching seniors enjoy the event. “It was great seeing the work we put into this event put smiles on their faces,” Mull said. Several seniors shared how much they look forward to attending the prom each year, making the day especially meaningful for the students involved.

The Senior Citizen Prom highlights the power of service learning by giving students real-world opportunities to give back, build leadership skills, and strengthen community relationships. Jefferson County Schools is proud of the JCHS students and community partners who continue to make this beloved event such a success year after year.
