Students in the 4th‑period Service Learning class at Jefferson County High School combined leadership, creativity, and compassion by hosting a Community Movie Night for a Cause. The event brought together more than 100 community members on the JCHS lawn for an evening of family fun—all in support of Lakeway CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

Students planned and led every aspect of the event, including hosting the movie, operating concession and donation stands, and organizing games for attendees. With support from Jefferson County Parks and Recreation and Asian House, along with generous donations from Coca Cola, Walmart, and Boomers Kettle Corn, the night was a true community effort. Thanks to these partnerships and the generosity of those who attended, students raised over $800 to support CASA’s mission.

Beyond fundraising, the students’ primary goal was to raise awareness about the vital work CASA does for children in need. Lakeway CASA is a nonprofit organization based in Morristown that recruits and trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in juvenile courts. Serving Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, and Sevier counties, CASA volunteers help ensure that children find safe, permanent homes.

The JCHS Service Learning class demonstrated how student‑led initiatives can make a meaningful impact, blending service, teamwork, and community engagement for a powerful cause.
