Each year, the Tennessee Mathematics Teachers’ Association (TMTA) sponsors a statewide mathematics contest that challenges students from across Tennessee to demonstrate their problem-solving skills. Competitors take a rigorous exam consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions in one of six subject areas: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Statistics, Precalculus, and Calculus and Advanced Topics. Top-performing students earn statewide recognition, and locally, Carson-Newman University awards a $1,000 scholarship to the first-place finisher in each contest area.

Jefferson County High School students have a long-standing tradition of excellence in this competition, and this year proved to be no exception. JCHS students earned numerous top-10 placements across multiple categories, highlighting both their dedication and the strength of the school’s mathematics program.

Algebra I Results

Jefferson County High School placed four students in the top ten:

• Isabella Duncan – 2nd place
• Edward Zhang – 3rd place
• Sabrina Cutler – 6th place
• Courtney Calfee – 8th place

Geometry Results

An impressive six JCHS students earned top‑ten finishes:

• Isabella Yuen – 3rd place
• Lauren Allum – 6th place
• John Paul Paulos – 8th place
• Waylon Rabaduex – 9th place
• Isabel Adams – tied for 10th
• Kendra Atkins – tied for 10th

Algebra II Results

Two students placed in the top ten:

• Jayden Lindsey – 2nd place
• Evian Waltke – 9th place

Precalculus

• Kalvin Fisher - 8th place

JCHS Mathematics Department Chair Dr. Benjamin Love extended his appreciation to the teachers who supported the students in preparing for the contest.
